Town Hall: Treasurers, CFOs Should Communicate with Employees as Well as Senior Management
At yesterday’s AFP Town Hall meeting at the AFP Annual Conference, several senior-level financial executives emphasized that it is the responsibility of treasurers and CFOs during this credit crisis to communicate with an organization’s employees as well as senior management.
Ira Birns, CFO, World Fuel Services: “Educating employees first is important because your employees are interfacing with customers and suppliers. We communicate with our employees through town halls and video conferences, among other ways.”
Loren Starr, CFO, INVESCO: “You may find that your organization’s employees are voicing concerns. Recently we have done a significant amount of communication to employees from senior management, as much as one or twice a week … not giving a sense of false security, but making sure employees understand what is happening and why, what is real and what is not.”
